A Favorite Thing: Extraordinary Sunrises

Joining up with Claudia at Mockingbird Hill Cottage for some really extraordinary favorite things!

This busy, disorganized, jumbled mess of rooftops and utility poles is the view from my back door.  It's my first glimpse of the "outside world" most mornings, and it mirrors the busy, disorganized jumbled mess of thoughts going through my head.  "There's so many things that I have to do today.  How am I going to get them all done?"

But sometimes if I look up just a little bit higher -- like I did this morning -- I see something like this:

And no matter how rushed and stressed I think I am, I've learned to go get the camera and capture the moment immediately because it never waits.

Extraordinary, fleeting sunrises are one of my favorite things because they remind me that all that really matters is NOW, this very moment, and that I should make the most of it.  I try to tell myself to "look higher," above whatever ugly mess is foremost in my mind or vision, and try to see the bigger picture of what's really important.

Just like the colors of a sunrise, each minute of every day is fleeting.  I don't want to waste any of them worrying over things I really can't control, or missing the chance to appreciate something extraordinary.

  3. So true! I have the same view from my balcony all the time, but I am always looking up at the sky trying to capture clouds or birds, a sunrise or sunset. There's always something lovely to see. Wishing you a wonderful day. Tammy

Especially since there are sometimes thoughtful comments I'd like to respond to but the commenter has a no-comment email address, I'm trying another tactic In the never-ending battle of indecision between responding to comments by email or answering them on the blog -- I'll do both! Of course, they'll be the same reply in both places ;)
